Just got back from spending a week here - what a lovely town site.
It is set in woodland with miles of walks along the river and through the woods just outside the entrance.
Most of the time we were there it was raining BUT we still could see how lovely the area is.
The site itself is up to the usual CC standards, all gravel hardstanding (was that a boon in the weather we had), good sized, plenty of room for a full awning and your car, usual CC toilet/shower block in a central position. Very friendly wardens, even laid on a get together for everyone in their garage for the couple of hours before the bells - with half of Glasgow staying on the site it made for a very convivial start to Hogmanay!!!
Theres a 24 hour Tesco a few minutes from site if you like that sort of shopping. Good variety of shops in the town - an easy walk along the riverbank from the site. Oh - and one of the best restaurants I have been to in a wee while - Fouters, in the town centre, in an old bank vault but very light and airy and superb food, cost us £70 per couple including 3 courses (and a complimentary taster) and some good house wine, the service was good just the right level of friendliness and knowledge. All 10 of us agreed we would happily go back there again (just wished they were local to us).
Very good butchers in town - we tried their steak pie for New Years Day - super, full of large chunks of meat, light flaky pastry - no wonder they have won so many prizes for their various pies. We also had a piece of their rump steak - nice and dark and very tasty. Unfortunately I dont know the name as my other half did the shopping but they are just round the corner from TK Max!!!
So, all in all a good trip to a pleasant area - we will definitely return, have to so that we can have another meal at Fouters!!!!!

Visited: July 2004
Location:
At the entrance to the National Trust for Scotland Culzean Castle country park a few miles along the coast from Ayr.
Pitches:
A few level hardstandings but many of the grassy pitches are sloping. Some have sea views.
Facilities:
One toilet block, clean and with adequate
showers.
Childrens facilities:
The childrens play area consists of a single rather sad and neglected looking slide.
Attractions:
The main reason for visiting this site would be to visit the country park which is excellent. The gardens are lovely, the house impressive and there is a nice beach at the western end of the park.
