If anybody is visiting Edinburgh they may be interested in a new touring site which I have been closely involved with over the last three years.
Twenty-plus years of motorcaravanning helped in deciding the layout and installation of the facilities in the Caravan Park at Newtongrange, seven miles south of Edinburgh on the A7.
Forty-six individually marked pitches all with electric hook-up, some hard standing, all are good sized and pretty level with easy access.
Newly built heated toilet block has a laundry room and baby changing room/disabled toilet. There is also a Motorhome emptying point and a dog exercise area.
The site is on a bus route and close to many local places of interest including the Scottish Mining Museum and the Butterfly Farm. Fishing, golf and cycle tracks are all closeby.
Local amenities including shops and swimming pool are just a ten-minute walk away.
Good hotel with bar/restaurant opposite.
Give it a try. Youre sure of a warm welcome.

Slatebarns is the Caravan Club affiliated site to the South of Edinburgh. Smaller and more intimate than it larger companion to the North.
The owners Robin and Moira Crawford have 34 pitches situated at the top of Roslin Glen on their well kept and pretty site.
Just 100 yards from Roslin, Chapel Da Vinci Code fans can spend their holiday looking for the treasure!! We have been going to Slatebarns for years, long before Da Vinci arrived and we have yet to find anything!
Anyway back to the site.
One building houses reception, the toilet block, undercover dishwashing and vegetable preparation areas, laundry and public telephone.
All the facilities are kept to the high standards expected of CC members.
Pitches are large and well laid out so that access is easy. Some are grass and some are hard standing, although I would recommend steel awning pegs wherever you pitch.
Television reception is good although you need a directional aerial and mast.
Roslin village is a 5 minute walk away and has shops for basic supplies. There is a large Sainsbury superstore within a five minute drive.
Buses run from the village into the city for those not wanting to drive in.
There is also a separate CL immediately next door to the main site.
Walkers will enjoy the glen and hardened shoppers will be equally satisfied with Princes Street.
Another site I never tire of visiting.
Date of visit: August 2006
Directions etc as per original report.
