This is one of two Forestry Commission sites in the western part of the
forest of Dean (There is a third site somewhere else in the Forest of Dean which
doesn’t have facitities). Christchurch site is on the edge of the forest and
Christchurch town and Bracelands Site is approx. a mile into the forest from
Christchurch. The office for both sites is located on the Christchurch site.
Ed. note Here
are links to all 3 sites for you’re convenience

www.forestholidays.co.uk/christchurch
www.forestholidays.co.uk/woodland
This is a very large site which can accommodate hundreds. There are 3 sets of
clean facitities dotted around the site.
There is a considerable slope on parts of the site but there are levelish spots
also.
The price per night varies between £6.40 and £11.80 per unit with 2 people
depending on the day of the week and time of year, electricity is an extra £2.30.
I visited in October and there couldn’t be a more attractive place anywhere with the changing autumn colours. There are enough walks and cycle tracks in the forest to keep you going for quite a while and if you want something different you can hire a canoe and go on the River Wye (not from the site).
I cannot say much about pubs and shopping as we brought what we needed. There is a big Coventry DA Camping and Caravanning Club rally held each October mid-term which provides entertainment and activities (you have to be a member of the CCC but not the Coventry DA). This is definitely a site we will go back to but next time we will have an OS map which is essential to make the best of the walks available.

We have just spent a few days away at the Caravan Club Site at Cirencester Park.
Apart from the weather which was very wet it is a lovely location.
There are 224 pitches of which some are hardstanding although the majority are grass. We arrived late on Saturday night and there was only one hardstanding pitch left. We tried to use this pitch but it was, in my opinion, far too steep so we went to a grass pitch instead. Most of the other hard standings are level.
The site has super two toilet blocks, up to the usual Club standards.
There seems to be a fairly generous attitude to leaving time. For the four days of our visit it was by 4.00pm.
Out and about, Cirencester is a delightful town and surprisingly big. You can walk to the town centre from the site via Cirencester Park. It has a good selection of shops including a very nice Waitrose.
You can contact the site (members only) on Tel 01285 651 546

224 pitches
We recently spent 12 days on the road in our ’Taliman’ Autosleeper and used Caravan Club Sites all time. Amongst the sites we used, Cirencester came top of our list for being a well laid out site which, although large was thoughtfully landscaped.
Toilet blocks, showers, washing up and laundry facilities were spotlessly clean at all times.
The wardens were pleasant and very helpful.
A big bonus is being able to walk through a park to the town of Cirencester so no need to move the campervan, but plenty of parking available if you want to drive.
An open air swimming pool is also very close to the site. I think all pitches had hook-up and hard standings were also available.

The site is on the A420 soon after you leave the A46, and about 5 miles from
Junction 18 on the M4. It is a ¾ acre site, mainly sloping, with hook-ups
positioned on 2 sides, and in the centre. At the top are the water points,
chemical disposal point, and waste and recycling bins.
Although the site is beside a main road there is very little noise at night.
When we were on site it had been raining beforehand, and the site was soft, particularly the pitches in the centre. (guess which pitch we had!) Mr Bishop is very obliging with his tractor so we were able to get off the pitch.
We would suggest that when on site you keep the lower part of you caravan door closed, this is to avoid visits from the site livestock. At the time we were here this comprised a peacock, assorted chickens, and guinea fowl. Mr & Mrs Bishop are given poultry that have been thrown out or neglected and nurse them back to health. At present the have some ex-battery hens in a pen, which will be allowed out in the daytime after they grow some feathers.
Bath & Bristol are a short distance from Wick, and both have Park & Ride facilities, and we found the site ideal for visiting them. We will probably return next year.

North West of Oxford on the A44 at junction with A429.
We have just returned from our first trip out of the year at the CC site at Moreton-in-Marsh, where we spent four nights. To anyone interested in this area I can certainly recommend this site. It is open to non-members but at a £5 a night surcharge,so it would be worth joining the Caravan Club.
About two thirds of the pitches are hard standing which is useful as the site
is open all year.
It was only the hard standing pitches being used whilst we were there. I was
surprised how full it was all through the week.
The wardens also seem to have a sensible policy towards departure times rather than the blanket 12.00 noon. The decision seemed to be made on a daily basis. The day we left (Saturday), we were able to leave at 2.00pm. The site is in easy walking distance of the town. The only slight downside is that the A44 can be noisy so the further from the road you can pitch the better. We were lucky with the weather with only Thursday being wet, otherwise
we had some super sunshine although it was still chilly in the wind. Mind you we were as snug as bugs in the Europa with the Carver Fanmaster electric heating, luxury with did not have in our last van and we would certainly be encouraged to go away earlier and later in the year.

Open all year, all hard standings, large site of approximately 185 pitches.
Fair sized field for dogs. Very good play facilities for children, play area in one corner of site with swings, etc suitable for young children, large field for ball games, another part of field with crazy golf and boules pitch.
Two toilets blocks with usual high standard showers, etc plus dishwashing/veg preparation areas and laundry facilities (washing machines and tumble driers). Only critiscm - why are there more "private" wash cubicles than shower cubicles in the ladies blocks. Only 3 female and 3 male showers in each block but plenty of sinks!
Very friendly and helpful wardens. Pretty site 5 minute walk from town with
good selection of shops - best butcher I have come across in England. Large
market on Tuesdays - they bus people in from all over the Midlands! Good bakers
and TWO (smile) shops selling handmade chocolates and sweets.
There is a supermarket on edge of town with a fair selection of food. Train
station with hourly service to Oxford and London, only £26 day return including
tube day ticket (October 2004).
Plenty of pubs and restaurants in the town, can recommend "Inn on the
Marsh" for food and friendly pub atmosphere. Very good pizzeria, sorry
cannot remember name.
A very good site and central for touring the Cotswolds, Oxford, Blenheim, Banbury and even as far as Birmingham.

North or South on A429 in Moreton turn onto A44, signed to Evesham. Site on
right in about half a mile.
There are 182 pitches, the majority of which are on hard standing. The gravel
area of the pitch can accommodate the caravan and awning and the car must be
parked in front of the van. The few grass pitches tend only to be used in dryer
conditions.
The site is open all year and non members are accepted.
There are two toilet blocks, one of slightly older design and the other more
modern but both are up to the usual CC super standards.
TV hook-up is available but you must provide your own co-ax cable, although they
can be purchased from Reception.
The site has very good facilities for children. In one corner of the site is
a play area for smaller children. In addition there is a large field containing
a boules pitch, crazy golf and volley ball, behind this is a football area.
Adjacent, but separated, is a dog walk.
Reception sells a few essentials.
This site is situated alongside the A44 so there will be some road noise on
the pitches nearest the road.
This site is very popular so its best to get booked up in advance if you want to
visit.
The site is in easy walking distance of the town of Moreton in Marsh with its many restaurants and pubs. On Tuesdays there is a street market. There is a Budgens supermarket at the north end of the town and a Tesco extra and Co-Op in the main street. There is also a railway station with access to Oxford. Being on the edge of the Cotswolds there is plenty to do in the area.

From Bourton-on-the-Water follow the A436 road signed to Cheltenham. The site is
on the left of the A436 about six miles from Bourton. Do not be tempted to
follow any signs for Notgrove as this will not lead you to the site.
Site details:
80 pitches spread out over five and half acres. There are a few gravel
hardstandings and a level area of tarmac otherwise all other pitches are on
grass. There is no toilet block but there are ample service points and electrics
and TV booster to all pitches. This site also has seasonal pitches as well as in
season storage. This is a members only site.
The site is built on what was once a railway line. It nestles in a fold of land just off the A436 although there seemed to be little road noise. There are limited walking opportunities from the site. This would be a good site to visit the Cotswolds but away from the hustle and bustle, or just for a quiet weekend. During our stay there were still some free pitches so with the exception of Bank Holidays it is likely that you would find space without booking but a phone call in advance of arrival would be advised. All this for £6.50 and night!

Notgrove is a small and secluded Caravan Club site about 5 miles from the
Cotswold village of Bourton on the Water. It is a member’s only site.
There is an extremely peaceful atmosphere on this site.
There are grass and hard standing pitches and also a tarmac area for motor
homes.
At the top of the site is a storage area.
Notgrove has no toilet block so on board sanitation is essential.
Television reception is improved by hooking into the booster on the electric
bollard.
The access road runs round the site from reception in an anti-clockwise
direction. The first section is the grass pitches on either side. This is a
little narrow to reverse larger outfits onto without making some manhandling
necessary. (Must get a motor mover!) However once round the loop the site is
much wider. The branch road up to the storage area is all hard standing.
We noticed quite a few seasonal vans on the site.
The wardens are very helpful and friendly.
Mobile phone reception is poor and it is necessary to walk up the access road
before a decent signal is received.
Attractions in the area are endless......
All the Cotswold villages of course. Cheltenham and Gloucester are both lovely
towns worth a visit. The information hut is packed with brochures and also
details of the many hostelries in the area for eating out. We did not try any
preferring to barbecue, as the weather was so glorious. We visited Bourton of
course, Cheltenham and Gloucester.
This holiday is a trip to visit new sites and places so we did not revisit other places we have been to before. There is a very good motor museum in Bourton. Unfortunately all the cars are static exhibits. I do not think they have turned a wheel in years. This is a shame as there is a very rare Austin 7 Swallow there and also a Jaguar Mark V drop head among others.

Leave M5 at junction 9 and take A438 towards Tewkesbury. In town centre at
roundabout take first exit. In a couple of hundred metres turn left into Gander
lane. This lane narrows on the approach where it crosses a stream so care is
required with cars exiting the car parks. The entrance to the site is just past
the car park on the left.
This site is situated in a semi urban environment next to Tewkesbury Abbey and a short walk into the town. The wardens make great efforts to create a floral welcome to the site with reception decked with flowers. Tents and non-members are welcome at this site. There are around 140 pitches which are all on grass. Whilst many are level some will require a little levelling. Electric points are convenient to all pitches and are rated at 16 amps using CEE17 blue connectors. There are three toilet blocks which, due to the risk of flooding, are all raised above normal site level. However all but one of them has ramp access for the disabled. The blocks are functional and clean rather than being luxurious. The motorhome service point is at the front of the site. Reception sells a few essentials and newspapers can be ordered. Next door is a small information room. There is site wide WiFi, time can be purchased online. I have to say I found it quite slow even on fairly basic tasks. Whilst there are no play facilities on site for children there is a large adventure playground immediately outside the site entrance in the adjacent park.
The Abbey is only a short walk from the site and the town a little further. There are lots of restaurants and tea rooms and the town provides a good selection of shops. There is a Morrisons on the approach to the town from the motorway. The site is ideally situated to visit the Severn and Avon valleys. For many it will be a convenient overnight stop to and from the West Country being so close to the M5.
