Holly Farm Caravan Park and Fishery---
Fishing site
E-mail: hollyfarmcaravan@aol.com
Ok..Nice site this..Strange but nice
There is a field for if you want grass 15 pegs in total, or you can camp outside the hedge of the field if you want hardstanding. The hardstanding is also the car park for the fishing lakes.
There is a Toilet, shower and electric hook ups (not sure of the amps we didnt trip them at all) or you can get your battery charged if you want
There is a snooker room as well as a there is a clubhouse/shop
With three lakes and in excess of 100 pegs in total, the fishery caters for anglers of all abilities and offers superb sport in a delightful rural setting.
For the uninitiated Stoney Cove is a Granite quarry full of water and every day loads of nuts like us descend upon Stoney to go scuba diving. It costs each person £15 a day to dive there or £10 with Diverlog, and who knows what else in its famous bacon butties.

This first part will be of interest to those who are considering taking up caravanning. Even with all the troubles suffered by Peter & Judith, they still find caravanning a relaxing and worthwhile pursuit.
Weve had three trips altogether with our caravan and were slowly getting used to the towing, reversing (!!) and pitching. Weve had quite a few adventures already - getting stuck down a cul-de-sac, leaky tap flooding the fridge below, sky light flying off, getting stuck in mud - but weve survived all these traumas, learned from our mistakes and started to enjoy the freedom of caravanning. Were sure that after 20 years well still be learning but thats what makes life interesting, isnt it?
So..Onto the report.

Anyway, this note is mainly to let you know about Kilworth Caravan Park, where we stayed over Easter. This site is just west of North Kilworth in Leicestershire near Lutterworth. We used it mainly as a base for visiting family in Coventry and Birmingham otherwise we probably wouldnt have considered spending our Easter holiday in Leicestershire (nothing against the county but its doesnt sound very inspiring!). In actual fact we were pleasantly surprised. The site overlooks a fishing lake and was very peaceful (until we came along with our two year old twins, that is - although I think our caravan must be very well insulated because the couple next door in the motorhome said they hadnt heard a peep from them the whole time). The site has some statics in the next field along but hardly anyone seemed to be using them. The only disadvantage was that the site sloped down towards the lake. Luckily we managed to find a level space mainly on gravel right at the front overlooking the lake but it was quite an effort for other vehicles to tow their caravans up the slope because the ground was quite muddy. Actually it was quite entertaining watching other cars take a run-up to get their caravans up. Were sure once you were up there you probably had a lovely view of the lake but we havent got a very powerful car and we were quite happy to stay at the bottom. Also, we didnt have to bother about leveling our caravan which is something we havent attempted yet.
I know a little while ago some CLIC members were asking about fishing at caravan sites and this site would be perfect. You could pitch up and set up your fishing gear a few yards away and pop back for a cup of tea anytime.
The site is near to Foxton Canal Locks which, I believe, are ten locks all next to each other so you can watch the boats struggling to go up or down the canal. Also, Bosworth Battlefield is nearby and Althorp not too far away. Unfortunately we didnt have time to visit any of these because of visiting relatives but we did visit Coombe Abbey near Coventry which is a country park I would recommend to anyone staying in the area.
There is a Caravan Club site nearby at Stanford Park, Lutterworth which we tried to get into but they were only taking so many caravans because of the ground and we were too late booking so we have no idea what the site is like. Maybe another time.
Kilworth Caravan Park was only £7.50 a night (without hook-up) over the Easter weekend so it didnt break the bank. There are not many facilities, only toilets and showers, but the wardens were very pleasant. And the local pub in North Kilworth were offering to transport you to the pub and back for a meal which could have been quite useful.

Site is functional rather than attractive. Basically level but undulating. Some hard standings, these are on tarmaced
area and do not appear to allow for awnings. Ground sheets not allowed. Small amount of noise from motorway in the
area, but not much of a problem.
Ducks and geese wander around the site. Putting green. Shop. Fishing pond (in locked fenced area to safeguard
children) £2.50 per rod per day.
Toilets, showers (coin box inside cubicle) and non-cubicle basins. Washing machine, dish washing facilities, iron and ironing board. It might have even had a tumble drier..
Good points - grass mown, dustbins emptied, facilities clean and well stocked. Units reasonably spaced.
Bad points - picked up several insect bites whilst there; crane flies appear to congregate in the loo block; layout a
bit too regimented for our liking; quite a list of rules displayed (reasonable but just looked a bit daunting for all
that)
Wouldnt choose to spend a holiday here but that is down to my personal preference, there is nothing wrong with the site
and we might use it for another overnight stop.
£9.60 for motorhome, 2 adults and EHU. Additional charges for awning, dogs, extra people. Coin-operated (10p or 20p)
showers, hairdryer, iron and hot water for dishwashing.

The three fishery lakes, Moby, Gils and Trotters, are stuffed with a variety of species, but carp are the fish the fishery complex has become most famous for. 100lb plus bags are commonplace throughout the year
.....But, on this visit, I took no tackle even though I knew there was fishing as you see it is the closest site to that "wonderful" place called Stoney Cove
My thanks go to the authors and to Graham Wilson.
